Appearance: Above, large prominent eye spots and orange bars on forewing cell. Below forewing eye spot, white bar and dorsal orange bars show through; hindwing plain mottled brown.

Size: 1 3/8-2 1/4 inches

Habitat: Open habitat such as fields, roadsides and other disturbed areas.

Season: 2-3 broods, April till fall

Larval Foodplant: Plantains, snapdragons, toadflax, monkeyflower and others.
